Videomapping — by Nova Media Studio

This workshop curated by Federica Sorba and Eduard Tampu of Nova Media Studio, provides participants with a complete overview of video-mapping, combining theory and practice to develop technical and creative skills in the sector. An opportunity to delve deeper into the methodologies and tools needed to create impactful visual installations.
Activities

Day 1 - 10 May (10am - 5pm)
- Introduction to the topic and the main video-mapping techniques: presentation of project examples and case studies
- Understand the hardware and software in video mapping
- From the type of event to the production of visual content
- Unreal Windows activity: projection onto flat material
- How to approach an event: from installation to DJSet to AV performance
- Magic Policube activity: projection on 3D surfaces. -
Day 2 - 11 May (10am - 5pm)
- Approach the creation of mapping between masks, outlines and graphics
- Incorporate space: emphasize and enhance surfaces and decorative elements such as statues and reliefs
- Build a workflow, from brief to execution. Understanding the requests and their feasibility: between space, technical limitations and budget.
- Multiple video projection: management of multiple outputs, edge blending and related techniques
- Living Things activity: projection on complex objects.

PRE-REQUIREMENTS
Minimum knowledge of the visuals environment, specifically a basic knowledge of Touchdesigner will be of great help.
It is essential that each participant has their own laptop (Mac or Windows). If you wish and have the availability, you can bring your own midi controller.
Software requires the installation of Touchdesigner and Resolume Arena (available for free in demo version).
We ask each participant to arrive with a small material selection of videos (their own or from the web). They will be part of the practical activities proposed.

Nova Media Studio
Nova Media Studio is a reality born in 2024 from the collaboration between Federica and Eduard. From video mapping to the creation of real-time audiovisual projects, their goal is to create immersive experiences in different contexts.
Federica Sorba is a graphic designer and new media artist. With a background in the artistic field, she has interfaced with the new media world for years, working mainly in the field of real-time visuals and live performances, focusing on the relationship between architectural space and visual medium. Her work has led her to collaborate with various Italian artists, museums and cultural associations, such as Club Silencio, ARCTIC Festival and Room.
Eduard Tampu is a composer, performer and new media artist based in Helsinki. His artistic work fuses dimensions of electronic and acoustic music, with a particular focus on immersive experiences through multi-channel audio and the use of real-time visuals. His multidisciplinary approach was presented at Sónar+D in Barcelona, while his compositions were part of Helsinki Fashion Week and festivals such as Ääniaalto.
