re-FLOW VR — Chrysanti Badeka

From 07/07/2021 to 31/08/2021

No matter where and how we live, our personal trajectories and decision-making processes reflect our footprint in the global ecosystem. Who is in emergency today?

The re-FLOW project, after the debut of the long-lasting performance in autumn 2019 and after the forced stop due to the pandemic emergency, restarts on 29 June 2021 and splits. Chrysanthi Badeka, artistic director, focuses in this second and final phase on the theme of the power of the political body on the screen, through an audio-video [dance] installation and an unprecedented VR experience that are hosted in various contexts across the country from Festivals to Art Galleries.

A transmedia choreographic work, re – FLOW, explores the body in a state of emergency and its correlation with new technologies. Almost an invitation to take part in a game that involves the choreographer, the designers, the new technologies and the public at various levels. A journey that invites the public to explore the choreography, first deconstructed and then recomposed through different mediums in immersive environments and synthetic soundscapes created in 3D, through two multimedia stages within which the spectator is free to interact with the materials, languages and techniques proposed: re-FLOW VR and re-FLOW Portraits.

re-FLOW VR, on display at Recontemporary, is the original work that continues the path of the long-lasting performance of 2019 but, at the same time, does not retain anything from it except “reiterating” its themes: migratory flows, travel, the state of emergency and the body under control, prisoner and in danger, a condition that with the pandemic has highlighted how geographically, physically and politically at risk we are.

Opening 7 July, 6.00 – 9.00, free entry

re-FLOW Portraits, national premiere from 21 to 23 July at the Circolo del Design in Turin, is a circular video-acoustic installation that transports the audience on a poetic and immersive journey. Chrysanti Badeka starts from the transmedia dance work in seven paintings performed live in October 2019.

A participatory experience in virtual reality, VR, for three spectators at a time, using Oculus Quest 2 technology. The development of re-FLOW VR starts from some questions / answers that the choreographer asks herself: what are we? Intangible animals? We fight. We flee. We dare. The laughter and the scream, the labored breathing, the disturbing vigilance. What is all this? Is there a definitive exit from the vortex of a tragedy? Exploring the body in a state of emergency, the choreographer together with the VR digital artist Andrej Boleslavský, the visual artist and digital creator Constantine Nisidis, the sound designer Lambros Pigounis and the digital artist and sound programmer: Yannis Kranidiotis, invite the audience to a poetic and unpredictable virtual journey through our hemisphere, from south-east to north-west.
