INTERSPAZIO: la distanza minima — Gianfranco Maranto

Recontemporary presents Interspazio: la distanza minima (Interspace: the minimum distance), a site-specific installation by Gianfranco Maranto that brings the artist’s video practice to the exhibition for the first time, from 21 September to 15 October 2022.

How much do projection and perspective define space? How much are light and shadow able to give new visions? Gianfranco Maranto invites the viewer to interact and dialogue with the exhibition environment through suspended barriers, silent cuts of light and color of Arrangiamento, Attraverso and Intervallo: three video works created using Paint, one of the first digital graphics programs distributed to the general public.

The observer’s gaze is thus guided towards new perspective visions, going beyond the simple sensitive data to cross over into another, immaterial dimension. The artist cuts out geometries, volumes and colors in a constant rhythm, dictated by cutting lines composed of scotch tape and projection, creating a network in which to get lost. A whole formed by the search for the essential, by the appreciation for a perfect geometry, by the discovery of new points of view and by the game of giving new forms to space and life.

At the opening it will be possible to enjoy themed cocktails with the exhibition created specifically by Gianfranco Maranto and Sciarada.

Arrangiamento (Arrangement), 2022 – 5:20 sec.
The term “arrangement” refers to the idea of ​​a musical composition and at the same time suggests the methods of “doing with little”: the art of making do and adapting with what you have available. The artist draws geometric shapes: more than three thousand paintings that, mounted in succession with the stop-motion technique, create the illusion of movement and a visual-spatial rhythm with a musicality without the didactic use of sound. The work gives life to a non-verbal, universal alphabet: absolute silence, after all, does not belong to life, but to the abstract world.

Attraverso (Through), 2022 – 5:31 sec.
The work is inspired by the vision of filaments (myodesopsies or floaters, in common language) that are found in front of the visual field when very close to the retina. Signs floating in space, which gradually acquire color. The work emphasizes the action of seeing and the ocular system: it arises from the memory and the amazement that one has when, in front of a light source, one discovers, for the first time, the existence of these foreign bodies.

Intervallo (Interval), 2017-2022 – 5:53 sec.
A series of works that range from the first experiments to the latest video elaborations. The television screen becomes the display from which to observe a geometric atlas, an abstract geography; an interval that divides the space through a pause, posing a reflection on what is the practice and research of language.
