Unframed: a video selection from Recontemporary

On the occasion of Loop Fair Barcelona, Recontemporary organizes an exhibition project to present the work +1DAY STREAK of Sara Levarato, winner of the 2nd edition of the Recontemporary Prize, and Alberto Anhaus, recipient of the foundation’s special mention. The exhibition will be hosted at Cimiento, Carrer de Llull 51, 1st floor 3rd local, 08005 Poblenou, Barcelona, from November 17 to 20, with opening hours from 10 AM to 2 PM. During the event, on November 19 at 11:00 a.m., attendees will have the opportunity to view a screening featuring a selection of works from Unframed by Alice Dicembrino, Beatrice Mika Sakaki, Emma Scarafiotti, Fabio Perino, Florinda Ciucio, Gianluca Iadema, Mara Palena and Megan Volpe.
November 17, 11:30 AM – Performance: Mdrrrolding by Alberto Anhaus
Mdrrrolding is a multisensory performance that weaves together sound, scent, image, and touch in a continuous process of transformation. The work draws inspiration from the concept of the undergrowth — understood as a living, fertile, and often invisible space that is essential to the regeneration of the world — and reflects on the relationship between organic and artificial matter, body and environment, life and decay. The piece unfolds as a sonic and material ecosystem, in which every element — human and non-human — contributes to a fragile, pulsating, and ever-evolving balance.
November 18, 11:30 AM – Meet the Artist: Sara Levarato
An opportunity to meet the winner of the Recontemporary Prize and discover her video work +1 Day Streak. In this piece, Levarato explores the logic of gamification as applied to everyday life — a strategy that may appear harmless at first, introducing playful dynamics into non-play contexts, yet ultimately reveals itself as a powerful mechanism for internalizing control. The meeting will also present the broader program and vision of the Recontemporary Prize.
November 19, 11:00 AM –Unframed: Screening from Recontemporary Collection (48 min)
In an era where the moving image has transcended the screen to become an immersive, sculptural, and deeply intimate form of expression, Unframed emerges as a living archive of voices still in formation. Curated by Fondazione Recontemporary, the project brings together a selection of video works by emerging artists, each exploring the language of contemporary video art and contributing to its ongoing reinvention. The screening presented for the occasion features a selection of works from the Unframed series, including pieces by Alice Dicembrino, Beatrice Mika Sakaki, Emma Scarafiotti, Fabio Perino, Florinda Ciucio, Gianluca Iadema, Mara Palena, and Megan Volpe.
Sara Levarato
I'm an Italian new media artist and designer based in Rotterdam. My practice centers around CGI-based visual storytelling, presented through video installations and printed matter. My works combine critical design and research-based approach with an intuitive and experimental use of digital techniques. I am interested in the internalization of technological processes within the data-driven landscape and their psycho-cultural impact on the late capitalist subject. Especially how individuals are subjected to interpretation, labeling, and representation through digitization and the logic of self-optimization. I am drawn to 3D CGI imagery, captivated by the magical quality of constructing immersive digital scenes—fascinated equally by the illusion of boundless creative freedom and the constraints imposed by software limitations and machine power.
Alberto Anhaus
He studied percussion at the Conservatories of Padua, Krakow (PL), Parma, and Bern (CH). Specialized in experimental music, he has collaborated with orchestras and ensembles such as Divertimento ensemble, Sampl, Ex Novo Ensemble, INPUT DUO, Taverna Maderna, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, and Collettivo_21. He was awarded the scholarship Creation of Percussion by the Cini Foundation of Venice. In 2023, he was selected as a finalist for the Berlin Prize for Young Artists, and since March 2023, he has been part of the Biennale College of the Venice Biennale Musica. There, he presented the multi-sensorial installation Colonization – Sea Invasion.
He collaborates with composers including Éliane Radigue, Pierluigi Billone, Luca Guidarini, Zeynep Toraman, and Fabio Machiavelli.
He has performed at festivals and venues such as La Biennale Musica di Venezia, Fondazione Prometeo (Parma), SMC Lausanne, Alte Schmiede Kunstverein (Vienna), Crossroads Festival (now Limina festival, Salzburg), Kontaktas Festival (Vilnius), IGNM Bern, O’Culto (Lisbon), Biennale Music Zagreb, Mantova Musica, impuls (Graz), GMEA (Albi), Triennale di Milano, Ars Electronica (Linz), and MA/IN Festival. He is currently a PhD researcher at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Naples.
